Allen’s lolly iNSiDE OUTS recalled nationwide after plastic found in some packets

A popular lolly sold at supermarkets across Australia has been pulled from shelves over fears it may contain pieces of plastic.

Allen’s iNSiDE OUTS 130g has been recalled after foreign matter — plastic — was found in some batches, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) said on Tuesday.

The affected products have a best-before date of 30/JUN/2027 and batch numbers 6072T941, 6073T941, 6074T941, 6075T941, 6085T941, 6086T941 and 6088T941.

The lollies were sold nationally at Coles, Woolworths, independent retailers including IGA, as well as convenience stores and petrol stations.

The FSANZ said consuming food products containing plastic may cause illness or injury.

The issue was traced to a contract manufacturer’s equipment failure.

Consumers are being urged not to eat the product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice,” FSANZ said.

Nestle, which owns Allen’s, said the issue was traced to a contract manufacturer’s equipment failure.

“A contract manufacturer experienced an equipment failure in their facility, resulting in small pieces of plastic being dislodged during production of the products,” the company said on its website.

Nestle said its investigation indicated only a small number of products were potentially affected and any risk to consumers was considered negligible, but the recall had been issued out of “an abundance of caution”.

“The safety of our consumers always comes first. This recall is a precautionary action, taken in line with our rigorous quality standards,” Allen’s spokesperson Andrew Lawrey said.

“We moved quickly to notify authorities and inform retailers as soon as we became aware of the issue.

“If you have purchased any of these products, please return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
